Is it safe?

Aerial circus is as safe as any other physical activity if the trainers are excellent (ours are), equipment is checked (we check all equipment every term) and all learners follow our code of conduct which keeps everyone safe.

All our trainers have a wealth of experience and are DBS checked.  Alongside the technical teaching of aerial skills, we want to instil safe practise and respect for the art. We encourage a spirit of cooperation and respect amongst members. No one is made to do anything they are uncomfortable with, and everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace.

Do you have to be strong / fit?

No! Absolutely anybody can learn aerial circus, no matter their age or ability.

What do I wear?

  • Yoga / dance / gym clothes are best. Avoid anything too baggy or anything that you can't move freely in.

  • Have legs covered (bare legs will get sore!)

  • No belts, scarves, buckles or clasps.

  • Long hair should be tied back.

  • You will mostly work in bare or socked feet.

  • Sensitivity to religious beliefs will be afforded with regard to the dress code but safety is paramount and any clothing that is considered by the instructor to be a safety hazard should be changed.

  • You will have to take jewellery off (stud earrings are OK)

What if I'm scared of heights?

It is totally up to you how high you go. As a beginner, you will work on a trapeze that you can easily reach from the ground, and when working on the rope or silks, you can do all sorts of cool moves that are low down. Whenever you are ready, you can start working higher up (or not!).

Will aerial circus get me fit?

Yes, but that’s not all! As well as being great for your emotional and mental health, practising aerial circus will improve the following:

  • Balance

  • Coordination

  • Flexibility

  • Stamina

  • Fitness and cardiovascular

  • Spatial awareness

  • Strength

  • Reflexes

  • Agility
